I want to share with you my friend Corina’s new quilt. For those of you who do not recognize the pattern, it is a double Irish chain. It is a beautiful king size quilt that she made for her daughter for Christmas. The hand quilting is still a work in progress but it is coming along one stitch at a time.
There are a few amazing things about this quilt that I would like to share with you. The first is that this is Corina’s first king size quilt (that alone is a big milestone), but this is also the first quilt she has ever hand quilted.
In the quilting world Corina is still quite the newbie, but you would never be able to tell it by her hand stitches, look how nicely they are done. The thing that stunned me most was that she was stab stitching with a medium size tapestry needle! Yet her stitches are as perfect on the bottom of the quilt as they are on the top.
Just for fun, I tried quilting with her needle using the quilter’s rocking motion, but I simply could not do it, the needle was way to big for me, yet she handles it with perfection. It just goes to show that there is more than one way to get the job done, and done well.
