New Project

Now that my studio is clean and orderly I have been able to work in there without feeling claustrophobic and overwhelmed. I even have room to open up my art desk!

Art Desk Open

Over the past 5 days I have been drawing and painting and this is what I have been working on:

Butterflies in Graphite

Butterflies 2

Butterflies in Graphite

Once the drawing was complete, I couldn’t resist transferring it to fabric. I used a piece of the off-white linen/cotton fabric that I made a blouse from earlier this year and I painted a background on it. This was so much fun!

Once the fabric was completely dried and pressed with a super hot iron, it was ready to work with. I transferred the design using a charcoal pencil, gently set it inside a small quilting hoop without stretching the fibers and started painting.

(Look how the color softened and faded)

I haven’t decided what to do with it when it’s complete. The fabric measures about 15″ x 25″ and the butterflies are set about 1/3 up from the bottom. I thought about making a tote bag with it, but I already have several and I don’t use them too much. I also thought about a quilted wall hanging, but I’m not completely sold on that thought either. What do you think? I would love to here your ideas.

Happy Creating!!
